You are invited to view the works of Sophie La Maitre titled Re(dis)covery, exhibiting at Spectrum Project Space.
Compiling multiple site visits into Perth’s inner city environment Re(dis)covery aims to investigate and engage with our everyday spaces. As the summation of her honours research project, this exhibitionaims to resonate with the viewer’s daily experiences and bring attention to the overlooked aspects of our everyday lives.
With a deep curiosity for our everyday spaces, La Maitre examines a sites tangible aspects and builds an archive of textures, sounds, and images. This work researches how this evidence of human interactions and passing time can be used to re-present a place or site to an audience.
Sophie La Maitre is an emerging artist from Perth, Western Australia. Currently completing a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Visual Arts from Edith Cowan University, La Maitre’s work is site responsive and utilises various mediums including printmaking, drawing, and collage.
La Maitre pursues a more intense engagement with everyday life and surroundings. Aiming to bring attention to the peripheral and ephemeral matter in these spaces, her work rediscovers overlooked places and objects.
