At the Faculty of Education and Arts Student Prize giving ceremony held on February 1st, four Japanese language students were awarded a Japanese Association Award for each proficiency level.
The Japanese Association has been donating prize money over several years with a total of $500 being split between the award winners. The President of the Japanese Association - Mr Hideki Iwashita also attended the ceremony.
The winners were:
Ella Saunders – Introductory ($100)
Monica Barry – Intermediate ($100)
Mariko Huartson – Advanced ($100)
Gemma Walker – Proficiency ($200)
Winner of the Advanced award – Mariko - was also awarded a prestigious WA Government Japanese Studies Scholarship. The award was presented to him in a separate ceremony at Parliament House by the WA Education Minister.
